History

Meriwether Lewis and William Clark are famous personalities who passed from South Sioux City in 1804.

South Sioux City is located at 42°28′16″N 96°24′53″W (42.471095, -96.414732).

The city has a total area of 5.96 square miles (15.44 km2), of which 5.71 square miles (14.79 km2) are land, and 0.25 square miles (0.65 km2) are water.

South Sioux City is relatively flat concerning its hilly larger neighbour. The elevation generally ranges between 1,085 and 1,105 feet above sea level and has a difference of 20 feet across most of the city.

Highways 

A few thruways serve South Sioux City: 

Highway 129 is a short east-west spike starting at Interstate 29 in Sioux City. It enters South Sioux City through an extension over the Missouri River. Then cross the southern finish of South Sioux City with trades at the city’s central avenue and U.S. Highway 77. Highway 129 covers U.S. highways 20 and 75.

Siouxland Veterans Memorial Bridge: 

U.S. Highway 77 is a north-south parkway whose northern end is at Interstate 29 in Sioux City. From that point, it enters South Sioux City through the Siouxland Veterans Memorial Bridge, follows Dakota Avenue to ninth Street, then, at that point, curves west and south as a four-path sidestep around the city. 

In 1989, a huge strip shopping centre secured by Wal-Mart and Hy-Vee opened along the detour and adequately moved the city’s essential retail region from Dakota Avenue, in the focal point of the town, toward the western edge of the city.
